Melbourne, 8 April — OTN Bangla has obtained further details following the tragic road accident of Tirtha Biswas on the evening of 6 April, 2025.
According to the coroner’s findings, Tirtha sustained critical head, chest, and pelvic injuries in the crash. His car reportedly veered off the road and collided with a tree, leaving the vehicle severely damaged. Police arrived at the scene within ten minutes, but unfortunately, Tirtha could not be saved.
Sunny Sanjay, a member of the Bangladeshi community in Melbourne who has been closely supporting Tirtha’s family and managing the necessary administrative tasks—including liaising with the owner of the pizza shop where Tirtha was employed—confirmed to OTN Bangla that workplace insurance will cover all funeral-related expenses, including the repatriation of Tirtha’s body to Bangladesh. Furthermore, WorkCover has agreed to support Tirtha’s wife, Ritika Chowdhury, by covering her medical expenses, including any necessary psychiatric care to help her recover from this traumatic ordeal.
Sunny further assured that the necessary administrative processes—including passport cancellation, embassy clearance, and funeral arrangements—are progressing smoothly. The body will soon be handed over to a funeral service, after which it may take a few more days to finalise the arrangements for Tirtha’s repatriation to his grieving family in Bangladesh.
A minor correction to our previous report
OTN Bangla earlier stated that Tirtha Biswas was a student of Deakin University. While he was initially enrolled in the Information Technology program at Deakin University’s Geelong campus, he later transferred to the Victorian Institute of Technology (VIT), where he was studying at the time of his passing. OTN Bangla sincerely apologises for the earlier inaccuracy.
Tirtha had arrived in Australia just a year ago on a student visa. His wife, Ritika Chowdhury, joined him in Australia on a spouse visa only in February 2025. Originally from Chattogram, Bangladesh, Tirtha was the son of Chandan Biswas, a prominent lawyer in the local legal community.
This devastating loss has left Tirtha’s newlywed wife and family in deep mourning. The Bangladeshi diaspora in Australia has been deeply affected by this tragedy, with many expressing shock and sorrow over the loss of a young life full of promise.
OTN Bangla will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
